Master the art of orchid care with our comprehensive guide. These elegant blooms can thrive for months with proper attention.

Orchids are the most misunderstood flower we sell. Clients often return them convinced they're impossible to maintain. In reality, orchids are hardy — they just need a different approach than other flowers.
Overwatering. Orchid roots need to dry out between waterings. Sitting in wet medium causes root rot, which looks like the plant is thirsty, which causes people to water more. The cycle is fatal.
Water thoroughly once every 7–10 days. Use room-temperature water and let it drain completely. Never leave an orchid sitting in a saucer of water. The "ice cube method" (one cube per week) works surprisingly well for Phalaenopsis.
Bright indirect light is ideal — an east-facing window is perfect. Direct afternoon sun will scorch the leaves. Insufficient light prevents reblooming.
When flowers drop, cut the spike to the second node from the base. With proper care, a new spike will emerge within 3–6 months. Orchids can bloom for years with the right conditions.
Our orchid pieces use Phalaenopsis set in moss and orchid bark in decorative vessels. With our care instructions followed, they regularly last 2–3 months — far beyond any cut flower arrangement.
